Moses in Freetown
Moses heeft afgelopen maandag het gedoneerde geld opgehaald bij de bank; het leek ons het handigst om dat met Western Union over te maken naar Sierra Leone.
Gisteren was hij al naar Regent,(de meest getroffen wijk) gegaan om te beoordelen hoe het het best besteed kon worden.
Ik had hem ’s avonds aan de telefoon, hij klonk gefrustreerd. ‘People are so terrible’ hoorde ik. De details zou hij later vertellen, maar dat werd kennelijk te laat.
Vanmorgen ging hij weer op pad. Uiteindelijk is hij terecht gekomen bij een opvang voor kinderen die alles kwijt zijn geraakt. Hier is hij enthousiast over, en ontroerd door de persoonlijke aanblik van de ramp.
Helaas kan ik zijn gesproken bericht hier niet laten horen, dus geef ik het maar geschreven weer:
Í started the work with the donation. I think tomorrow we have to bring some rice again, like 10 or 15 bags. It’s a lot of work. This is the young kids who lost their parents and everybody. Nobody to look after them.
When I came, I didn’t wanna rush, because some people that you meet are not effected but still they want something.. But the children mostly, I went where they cook, where they provide the food for them.
If you see the side where the problem occurred, if you see that side! Thousand houses where broken by the rocks, thousand rocks that fell down. You can’t believe that human being can live and survive there again. It’s a red zone. When I went there today water run in my eyes. Since from morning I didn’t eat. But if you see it, where the things occurred, you can’t eat the food.
And then when you think of the things that you see on television, and go to the live-ground and see, you can’t belief. Every side has been flooding with rocks, with a lot of iron. That’s why you see a lot of human beings being destroyed because some water took people from the hills down to the sea in Lunly.
We walked over the grounds. Tomorrow again we have to bring some rice with water.
But it’s not easy. Heavy, heavy, heavy things that you meet.
But the children happy; that;s why you have to send the pictures to tell the people I started the work with the donation.
